The Vickers V10 is the small frame of the V series round body vane pumps, and one of the most widely fitted industrial vane pumps ever made. It is a fixed displacement, balanced vane design that rebuilds around a replaceable cartridge kit, which is why a worn V10 is almost always worth repairing rather than replacing.

Is it a V10 or a V20?

This is the question we get most, and getting it wrong means the cartridge kit will not fit. They are different frames and share no internals.

The model code is stamped on the pump body or nameplate and begins with V10. It carries the ring size, shaft, port arrangement and rotation. Rebuilding a V10 in short

  1. Wash and drain the pump. Read the oil: bronze means cartridge or bearing, steel means shaft or rotor.
  2. Scribe the cover to body relationship and the port positions before opening it. V series pumps can be reassembled rotated.
  3. Lift the cartridge out as an assembly and note which face of the cam ring pointed at the cover. The ring is directional and a reversed ring will not build flow.
  4. Press the shaft out from the drive end, replace the bearing as standard, and check the seal running surface for a wear groove.
  5. Fit a complete new cartridge kit. Never put new vanes in an old cam ring.
  6. Prefill the body with clean oil, torque the cover evenly in a crossing pattern, then run in unloaded.

Which way round does the cam ring go?
