Before You Start Any Rebuild

Three things account for most failed rebuilds, and none of them is a worn part. Contamination introduced during assembly is the leading cause, so wash the unit before it comes apart and work on a clean bench. Dry starting is second, so always prefill the case with clean oil before closing it. Cavitation is third, and it is a symptom of the inlet, not the pump, so fix a restricted or aerated inlet before you rebuild or you will be doing it again.
