Vickers V20 Vane Pump: Specs, Identification, Parts & Seal Kits
The Vickers V20 is the larger single frame in the V series round body vane pump range, sitting directly above the V10. It is a fixed displacement, balanced vane pump that rebuilds around a replaceable cartridge kit, so a tired V20 is nearly always worth rebuilding rather than replacing.

Is it a V20 or a V10?
Worth two minutes before you order, because the cartridge kits do not cross between frames.
| V20 | V10 | |
|---|---|---|
| Frame size | Larger body | Smaller body |
| Typical flow | About 6 to 13 GPM | About 3 to 7 GPM |
| Typical pressure | Up to 3000 PSI | Up to 2000 PSI |
| Cartridge kit | V20 specific | V10 specific, not interchangeable |
| Parts catalog | V20 parts | V10 parts |
The stamped code begins with V20 and carries the ring size, shaft, port arrangement and rotation. If it is worn away, measure the body and shaft and send us photos. See also how to identify a Vickers hydraulic pump and the V10 versus V20 comparison.
If your pump has two sections bolted together it is a double, not a V20 single. Those are the V2010 and V2020 frames.
V20 symptoms and what they mean
| Symptom | Usual cause | What to order |
|---|---|---|
| Whine or chatter under load | Worn cam ring and vanes, or a restricted inlet | Cartridge kit, and fix the suction side |
| Low flow at rated speed | Worn cartridge | Cartridge kit |
| Oil weeping at the shaft | Worn shaft seal, or a grooved shaft if it returns quickly | Seal kit, and inspect the shaft |
| Will not prime | Suction air leak, or vanes stuck in the rotor slots | Cartridge kit, and check the inlet |
| Chipped or rounded vane edges on teardown | The pump has been cavitating | Cartridge kit, but fix the inlet first or it will happen again |
Rebuilding a V20 in short
Budget one to two hours. Full procedure with torque sequence is in the V series rebuild guide.
- Wash and drain. Bronze glitter in the oil means cartridge or bearing, steel means shaft or rotor.
- Scribe the cover to body relationship and the port positions before opening it.
- Lift the cartridge out as an assembly and note which face of the cam ring pointed at the cover. The ring is directional.
- Press the shaft out from the drive end, replace the bearing as standard, inspect the seal running surface.
- Fit a complete new cartridge kit. Never put new vanes in an old cam ring.
- Prefill with clean oil, torque the cover evenly in a crossing pattern, run in unloaded and confirm it primes within a few seconds.

Frequently asked questions
What is the flow rate of a Vickers V20 pump?
Roughly 6 to 13 GPM depending on the ring size in the cartridge and the drive speed. The ring size in the model code gives the exact figure for your build.
What pressure will a Vickers V20 run at?
Up to about 3000 PSI, which is the main step up from the V10 at 2000 PSI.
Are V10 and V20 cartridge kits interchangeable?
No. They are different frames with different internals. Confirm the frame before ordering.
Can a Vickers V20 be rebuilt?
Yes. Everything that wears is inside the cartridge kit, so a rebuild restores as new performance at a fraction of a replacement pump.
What is a V20NF?
The non ferrous variant of the V20, covered by service data M-2010-S rather than the standard M-2004-S.
