Rexroth A10VO / A10VSO Pump Rebuild Service

RestoPower rebuilds Bosch Rexroth A10VO and A10VSO piston pumps at our repair shop in Lake Orion, Michigan, for customers nationwide. Tell us about the pump and we arrange getting it to the shop doing the work, ours or a network shop closer to you. The teardown evaluation is free, you get a firm, itemized quote before any billable work, and a pump rebuilt in our shop comes back built to factory specification, function-tested, and covered by a 1-year repair warranty.

What makes an A10 rebuild work is parts. We publish parts catalogs for twelve A10VO / A10VSO frame sizes, 10 through 140, with Rexroth part numbers and quantities per pump, and we keep deep hard-to-find and obsolete parts inventory on hand. That is the difference between a shop that can quote your pump and one that has to go looking for the pieces first.

The short version: free teardown and evaluation, a firm itemized quote you approve before billable work, rebuilt to factory specification, function-tested, and for work done in our shop, a 1-year warranty on the rebuilt pump and the labor in it. If the pump is not worth rebuilding, we tell you and quote a replacement instead.

Our shop or our repair network. Your pump is repaired either in our shop in Lake Orion, Michigan, or through the RestoPower repair network, when a network shop closer to you can turn it around faster. We tell you before any work starts, and the price, turnaround and warranty for a network job are confirmed on your quote.

Which Rexroth A10 pumps do you rebuild?

The A10VO and A10VSO are Rexroth's swashplate axial piston variable pumps for open circuits, and they are the most widely used Rexroth series. The number straight after A10VO or A10VSO is the frame size, the displacement in cc per revolution, and parts do not cross between frames. These are the frames our catalog covers, each with its own parts list:

Frame size Displacement Parts for this frame
10 10 cc/rev A10VO / A10VSO 10 parts
18 18 cc/rev A10VO / A10VSO 18 parts
28 28 cc/rev A10VO / A10VSO 28 parts
45 45 cc/rev A10VO / A10VSO 45 parts
60 60 cc/rev A10VO / A10VSO 60 parts
63 63 cc/rev A10VO / A10VSO 63 parts
71 71 cc/rev A10VO / A10VSO 71 parts
74 74 cc/rev A10VO / A10VSO 74 parts
85 85 cc/rev A10VO / A10VSO 85 parts
100 100 cc/rev A10VO / A10VSO 100 parts
110 110 cc/rev A10VO / A10VSO 110 parts
140 140 cc/rev A10VO / A10VSO 140 parts

Frame size is only the start. The design generation after the slash (31, 32 and 52 are the common ones) matters just as much, because they are not interchangeable for internal parts. A 31 design seal kit will not serve a 52 design pump of the same frame. That is why we ask for the whole code, not just "an A10 71".

What fails on an A10VO or A10VSO pump?

A10s are good pumps. When they come in, it is almost always one of five things, and usually one of them has taken another with it.

Part What you notice What we look at on the bench
Rotating group (pistons, slippers, cylinder block) Flow drops off, the pump runs hot, case drain flow goes up Slipper faces, piston fit in the bores, the block face. Once the rotating group starts making debris it takes the valve plate and bearings with it.
Valve plate Loss of flow and pressure under load, heat Scoring and erosion on the face the cylinder block runs against, and the matching block face
Swashplate and its bearings Noise, the pump hunts or will not hold its stroke steady The swashplate bearing surfaces and the swashplate itself
Control (DR, DRG, DFR, DFLR) Will not build pressure, will not hold it, wrong standby, runs hot at idle The compensator spool and bore, springs and seals. Often the pump is fine and the control is the fault.
Shaft seal and shaft Oil slinging from the shaft, oil in the bellhousing The seal track for a groove, bearing play, and why it leaked. Case pressure is the usual cause, not the seal.

If the complaint is pressure, read Rexroth A10VSO pressure compensator adjustment before you pull the pump. Adjusting the wrong screw, or a control set by counting turns, sends plenty of healthy A10s to the bench. If it is leaking at the shaft, hydraulic pump leaking from the shaft covers the case pressure check that tells you whether a seal will last.

Rebuild, exchange or a new A10?

Option What you get When it is the right call
Seal kit, your own bench A Rexroth seal kit matched to frame, design and seal material The pump still makes flow and pressure and is only weeping, and you have the bench and the know-how.
Rebuild Full teardown, every seal and wear part replaced, worn surfaces machined or replaced, rebuilt to the original specification and function-tested The housing and shaft are serviceable and the wear is in the rotating group, valve plate, bearings or control.
Exchange Where we have a rebuilt unit on the shelf, you get it now and send your core back after The machine is down and downtime costs more than the pump.
New pump A replacement unit The housing is cracked or the bore is scored past cleanup, or a new pump is simply cheaper. If it is, we say so.

One thing people miss when they price a new A10 against a rebuild: the new pump has to match yours on control, rotation, shaft, porting and through drive, or it does not bolt in and work. Rebuilding your own pump keeps every one of those details exactly as the machine was built. The free evaluation tells you which way to go, and you can ask for a rebuild price and a replacement price on the same quote.

What should I send with my A10 pump?

  1. The full model code from the nameplate, every block. A real example reads A10VO71DFR/31L-PSC12K68: family, open circuit, frame 71, DFR control, design 31, left-hand rotation, Buna-N seals, standard shaft, 2-hole housing, port code, and through drive. A clear photo of the plate beats a typed guess. The Rexroth A10VSO / A10VO model code decoder explains every block.
  2. What the pump is doing: weeping, noisy, low flow, no pressure, hunting, hot, or seized.
  3. The compensator and standby settings it ran at, if you know them, so you can set it back the same way on the machine.
  4. Whether it has been apart, and whether the system has had a failure that put metal in the oil.
  5. Whether the machine is down right now. That changes what we recommend, and it can make an exchange the right answer.

Then request a quote with that information and we arrange getting the pump to the shop doing the work, with shipping instructions for you.

A DFR and a DFLR do not share a housing. If you are thinking of changing the control during the rebuild, say so up front. Converting a DFR pump to a DFLR means changing the housing as well as the control, and that belongs on the quote, not discovered at assembly.

Setting the compensator when the pump goes back in

The pump leaves our shop rebuilt to factory specification and function-tested. The setting your circuit needs is a machine setting, so check it once the pump is installed, with a calibrated gauge, every time. Rexroth's own data sheet warns that the adjustment screw will turn past the permissible setting range, and going past it can damage the pump and the system. Never set an A10 by counting turns.

The step-by-step for the DR pressure compensator and the DFR / DFR1 standby is in Rexroth A10VSO pressure compensator adjustment. Confirm which control you have first, since the control code sits right after the frame size in the model code.

Do not put a rebuilt pump into dirty oil

If the old pump came apart internally, the metal went into the system. Fitting a rebuilt A10 into that same oil is the most expensive mistake in hydraulics, and we see it repeatedly. Budget for a full flush, new filters, and an inspection of everything downstream. A cylinder or motor that swallowed debris will fail next and take the new pump with it.

A rebuilt pump dropped into contaminated oil can be destroyed in minutes, and that failure will not be covered by any warranty. Flush first.

Do you also rebuild A4VG, A11VO and A7VO pumps?

Yes. We rebuild Rexroth piston pumps, and that includes the A4VG closed-circuit pump used in hydrostatic drives, the high-flow A11VO and the mobile A7VO. Our catalog carries parts catalogs for eleven A11VO frame sizes and six A7VO frame sizes, and seal kits for the A4VG. The same free evaluation, firm itemized quote and, for work done in our shop, 1-year repair warranty apply. Every pump is different and every rebuild needs something different, so lead time on Rexroth parts can vary from one pump to the next. Your quote gives the price and the timeline for your pump before any work starts. See Rexroth piston pump parts by model for the full lineup.

Frequently asked questions

Who rebuilds Rexroth A10VO and A10VSO pumps?

RestoPower rebuilds Rexroth A10VO and A10VSO piston pumps at our shop in Lake Orion, Michigan, for customers nationwide. The teardown evaluation is free, you approve a firm itemized quote before any billable work, and every pump we rebuild in our shop is function-tested and covered by a 1-year repair warranty.

Is it worth rebuilding a Rexroth A10VSO pump?

Usually, when the housing and shaft are serviceable and the wear is in the rotating group, valve plate, bearings or control. A cracked housing or a bore scored past cleanup is when a replacement makes more sense. The evaluation is free, and if a new pump is cheaper than the rebuild we tell you.

Which A10 frame sizes do you have parts for?

Our catalog lists parts for A10VO and A10VSO frame sizes 10, 18, 28, 45, 60, 63, 71, 74, 85, 100, 110 and 140, with Rexroth part numbers and quantities per pump.

Do you offer Rexroth pump exchange?

Yes, where we have a rebuilt unit on the shelf. You get the rebuilt pump now and send your core back after, which gives the least downtime. Ask about exchange when you request your quote.

What information do you need to quote an A10 rebuild?

The full model code from the nameplate, every block, or a clear photo of the plate. The frame size, design generation and control all change the parts, and the 31, 32 and 52 designs do not share internal parts. Tell us what the pump is doing and whether the machine is down.

What warranty do you give on a rebuilt Rexroth pump?

Repair and rebuild work done in our shop carries a 1-year warranty covering the rebuilt pump and the labor that went into it, including pumps rebuilt with components from our own catalog. For a job handled through our repair network, the warranty is confirmed on your quote.

Will the compensator be set when I get the pump back?

The pump is rebuilt to factory specification and function-tested. Your circuit's pressure and standby settings should always be checked on the machine with a calibrated gauge, never by counting turns, because the A10 adjustment screw turns past the permissible range. Our compensator adjustment guide covers the DR and DFR controls.

How long does a Rexroth pump rebuild take?

It depends on the pump. Every Rexroth pump is different and every rebuild needs different parts, so lead time on parts can vary from one pump to the next. After the free teardown evaluation, your firm quote includes the price and the timeline for your pump, and nothing is billed until you approve it.

Do you send repairs to other shops?

Sometimes. We repair your pump in our shop in Lake Orion, Michigan, or route it through the RestoPower repair network when a network shop closer to you can turn it around faster. We tell you before any work starts, and the price, turnaround and warranty for a network job are confirmed on your quote.

Tell us about your A10. The evaluation is free.

Send the full model code and what the pump is doing. We tear it down, find the cause and send a firm, itemized quote before any billable work. Work done in our shop is rebuilt to factory specification, function-tested, and backed by a 1-year repair warranty. Replacing it instead? Our core buyback gives credit for worn, damaged and seized pumps.
