How to identify your Char-Lynn motor
Char-Lynn part numbers are usually a nine digit code in the form 101-1234-006, sometimes stamped on the end cap and sometimes only on a label that has long since fallen off. The first three digits identify the series and the displacement, which is what actually decides which seal kit and which wear parts fit.
If your number is worn away, measure the shaft diameter and the port size and count the bolt pattern, then send us photos, that is normally enough to place it. The last three are the design or engineering change code, and that is what determines which seal kit fits, because seal arrangements changed between designs. Displacement does not affect the seal kit.

Common Char-Lynn faults and what they usually mean
- Leaking at the shaft the shaft seal is the usual culprit, but a leak that returns quickly points at a worn bearing letting the shaft move. Replace both.
- Lost torque or slow rotation internal bypass past a worn geroler set. A seal kit will not fix this; the wear parts need replacing.
- Turns one way only commonly a valve plate or commutator problem rather than the motor body.
- Case drain running hot or full internal leakage. Worth diagnosing before it takes the rest of the circuit with it.
If you are not sure whether you need a seal kit or a rebuild, send the symptom rather than guessing at a part number.
