How to Read a Parker PVP Model Code — Including Buna vs Viton Seal ID
Displacement 16 · 23 · 33 · 41 · 48 (cc/rev)
Rotation R = clockwise · L = counter-clockwise (viewed from shaft end)
Pressure range 10 250–1000 · 20 250–2000 · 30 250–3000 · 36 250–3600 PSI
Ports Omit = SAE rear · 2 = SAE side flange · 3/4 = SAE side · 5 = rear (Vickers interchange, PVP16) · 9 = BSPP metric
Shaft Keyed or splined — PVP16: 3/4″ key / 9T / 11T · PVP23–48: 7/8″ key / 13T / 1″ key / 15T spline
Seals Omit = Nitrile (Buna-N) · V = Fluoroelastomer (Viton / FKM)
Control Omit = Pressure comp · M/ME = Remote · A = Load sense · H = Power limiting · C = Pressure/Flow/Power
🔎 Buna or Viton? Read one character. In the seal position of the model code, no letter = Buna-N (Nitrile) — the standard build for petroleum hydraulic oil. A "V" = Viton (Fluoroelastomer / FKM) — used for high fluid temperatures or aggressive fluids like phosphate esters. Matching the seal kit to your fluid is critical on a rebuild: Buna in a hot or phosphate-ester system will swell and fail early. When in doubt above ~180 °F or on any non-petroleum fluid, choose Viton.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my Parker PVP has Buna or Viton seals?

Read the Seals character in the model number on the nameplate: no letter means Nitrile (Buna-N); a "V" means Fluoroelastomer (Viton/FKM). Buna-N is standard for petroleum hydraulic oil; Viton is for high temperatures or aggressive fluids. If the nameplate is unreadable, send us your fluid type and operating temperature and we'll spec the correct kit.

What is the maximum pressure of a Parker PVP pump?

All PVP frame sizes are rated 248 bar (3600 PSI) continuous and 310 bar (4500 PSI) peak at the outlet port.

What is the difference between the Parker PVP frame sizes?

Displacement and flow. PVP16 delivers 7.8 GPM at 1800 RPM and mounts SAE A; PVP23–48 mount SAE B and range up to 48 cc/rev (22.8 GPM). Larger frames run at lower max speeds — PVP41 at 2800 RPM, PVP48 at 2400 RPM.

Which seal kit do I need for my Parker PVP pump?

PVP16 uses its own kit; PVP23 and PVP33 share a kit; PVP41 and PVP48 share a kit. Each is stocked in Buna-N and Viton. Confirm the full model number from your nameplate, then pick the frame size and seal material.
