Picking the right seal material

On PVWJ, PVM and PVG the seal material is field 7 of the type code on the nameplate. PVWJ defaults to V (Viton), PVM to B (Nitrile) and PVG to V (Viton). Ordering the wrong material is the most common Oilgear parts mistake.

On the legacy PVWH, PVW and PVWW pumps there is no seal letter in the code. The kit number itself carries it: the base number is the frame size (L50824 for sizes 04–10, L50825 for 11–20, L50826 for 25–60) and the suffix selects both the control and the material-12 Viton for standard controls, -300 EPR, -303 Buna-N. The full suffix table is on the PVWH / PVW / PVWW catalog.

Which seal material do you need?

Oilgear offers four materials on the shaft seal suffix, -7 Buna-N, -5 Viton, -9 EPR for phosphate ester and -3B Teflon. It has the widest factory choice of any brand we handle.

Choosing the wrong material is the most common cause of a repeat failure, because the right choice is set by the fluid in the system rather than by the pump.
