PVWH / PVW / PVWW, legacy open loop, sizes 04 thru 60

The long-running legacy line. PVWH and PVW run 150–300 SSU fluid; PVWW is the water-glycol version at 27–30 SSU.

PVK Series, 140, 270, 370

Large-frame variable pump, one-way and two-way, with link-type control and volume stops.

Symptom → what to replace

What the pump is doing Usual cause Parts to order
Pump will not build pressure Worn piston/shoe assemblies, or a scored cylinder barrel and valve plate face Rotating group kit and valve plate kit
Slow or unresponsive control Worn saddle bearings or a worn swashblock bearing face Saddle bearing kit and swashblock kit
Loss of flow at pressure, high case drain Worn rotating group, case drain leakage above the bulletin's slip figure Rotating group kit
Oil leak at the drive shaft Failed shaft seal, or a shaft worn in the seal area Shaft seal, or shaft & bearing kit if the seal track is grooved
Noise and cavitation Inlet restriction or aeration, not usually a worn part Check inlet before ordering parts
Pump seizes or will not turn Failed hydrodynamic cylinder bearing, or a spun saddle bearing Rotating group bearing kit and saddle kit
Control drifts off its setting Worn control piston, spring or compensator spool Control piston kit and compensator cartridge
External leak at the cover plate or adapter Hardened or nicked O-rings at a joint Pump seal kit, or the cover plate / adapter kit

Confirm a worn rotating group by measuring case drain flow with the pump on stroke against a relief valve, and compare it with the slip figure in your pump’s service bulletin. Leakage above that figure means wear.

What to send for a same-day quote

  1. The full type code off the nameplate, for example PVWJ-046-A1UV-LSFY-P-1NN-NN. It carries the frame, rotation, port arrangement, shaft and control, and all four change which parts fit.
  2. The serial number. Oilgear changed some parts mid-run, and the serial is what settles which version you have.
  3. The item numbers you need, off the exploded view on the catalog page for your model.
  4. The fluid petroleum oil, water glycol or phosphate ester. This decides the seal material and therefore the kit number.

Oilgear pump questions

Which Oilgear seal kit do I need for my pump?
It depends on three things: the pump series and frame size, the control fitted, and the seal material. On the legacy PVWH/PVW/PVWW pumps the base number is set by frame size (L50824 for sizes 04–10, L50825 for 11–20, L50826 for 25–60) and the suffix is set by the control-12 covers every control except VV, VS, VU, RU, RR, ER, RY and RS, which each have their own suffix. On PVWJ, PVM, PVG and PVV the pump seal kit is a single number per frame. The full selection table is on each model's parts catalog page.
Do Oilgear parts interchange with Vickers or Parker?
No. Oilgear is a separate manufacturer with its own part numbering, and the parts do not interchange. Watch out for the PVM designation in particular, both Oilgear and Vickers use it, for completely different pumps.
What is the difference between PVWH and PVWJ?
PVWJ superseded PVWH. They are different pumps with different part numbers, though Oilgear reused some base numbers across the two lines. PVWH runs items numbered 1 to 41; PVWJ runs three-digit item numbers (001, 101, 201, 301, 401) grouped by assembly. If your nameplate says PVW, PVWH or PVWW, use the legacy catalog; if it says PVWJ, use the PVWJ catalog for your frame.
What is the difference between PVWH and PVWW?
Fluid. PVWH and PVW are built for 150–300 SSU petroleum oil. PVWW is the water-containing-fluid version, built for 27–30 SSU fluids such as water glycol, and needs a flooded inlet with no inlet filter. They share the same parts drawing but not the same seal material.
How do I find my Oilgear pump model number?
It is stamped on the identification nameplate on the pump housing, along with the serial number. Send us both. The type code tells us the frame, rotation, port arrangement, shaft and control, and every one of those changes which parts fit.
What does the item number on the exploded view mean?
It is Oilgear's position number for that part in the assembly, and it is the number to quote when ordering. Most individual items are not sold loose, they are supplied inside a service kit. Every part row in our catalogs names the kits that contain it.
Can you rebuild my Oilgear pump instead of selling me parts?
Yes. We rebuild Oilgear piston pumps to factory specification and test them before they ship. See our repair and rebuild service, or send the nameplate data for a quote.
Do you buy used Oilgear pumps?
Yes, we buy hydraulic cores in any condition, and new old stock. See core buyback and we buy new old stock.
Need an Oilgear part or a pump rebuilt?
Send the nameplate type code and serial number, same-day response.
