By frame, a Char-Lynn (Eaton, now Danfoss) H Series lines up with the Danfoss OMP and DH, the White HS, the Ross MG and the M+S MLHP; an S Series with the OMR and DS, the White RS, the Ross MF and Parker's small-frame Torqmotors (TB, TC, TE, TJ); a 2000 Series with the OMS, the White RE and WS, the Ross MB and the Parker TF; the 4000 and 6000 with the Ross ME and the Parker TG and TH; and the 6000 and 10,000 with the Danfoss OMT and OMV. None of those is a guaranteed drop-in, so every row below says where the match comes from, a manufacturer crossover document or a side-by-side of published mount, shaft, port and displacement data, and you still check the seven items at the bottom before you bolt anything on.
That is the honest way to do a cross reference. The old charts floating around online map part numbers one to one, and then somebody finds out the hard way that the ports are BSPP, the shaft is a 14-tooth spline instead of a key, or the new motor wants a case drain the old one never had.
How to read the "basis" column. Manufacturer crossover means a motor maker printed the equivalence: here, TRW Ross Gear's own competitive cross-reference list, which itself warns that its displacement groupings are approximate and tells you to check the catalogs for shafts, mounts, ports and rotation. Published specs means we laid the current factory catalogs side by side and the mount, shaft and displacement range line up; it is a comparison, not a promise. Parker part numbers means Parker's own service charts carry the old Ross series prefix. Distributor sheet is a Danfoss distributor's interchange notes in our files: a lead, not proof. The Ross list also crosses the obsolete Nichols/Parker 050 and 051 (H), 100 and 101 (S), 110, 111, 121, 123 and 124 (2000) and 313 and 314 (4000 and 6000) series.
Which brands make orbital motors, and who owns them now?
- Char-Lynn is the Eaton orbital motor line. Danfoss bought Eaton's hydraulics business, and the current Char-Lynn catalog (BC453983407117en) is published as a Danfoss Orbital Motor catalog. Product numbers did not change: 101- is H, 103- is S, 158- is T, 104- is 2000, 109- is 4000, 112- is 6000, 119- is 10,000.
- Danfoss OM motors (OMM, OMP, OMR, OMH, OMS, OMT, OMV) are the old Danfoss orbital range. The OMT and OMV are still in a current Danfoss technical information (BC152886483862, October 2024).
- White Drive Motors and Steering is owned by Interpump Group, which bought it from Danfoss and closed on October 1, 2021. Interpump's announcement tied the deal to Danfoss closing its purchase of Eaton Hydraulics. White's current product pages list its own RS, RE, WS, DR, D9 and DT motors plus the OMM, OMP, OMR, OMH, OMS, DH and DS.
- Parker Torqmotor carries the TRW Ross Gear name forward. The Ross series letters MB, ME and MF still show up as Parker part-number prefixes (the MG letter does not appear in Parker's current service charts).
- M+S Hydraulic sells look-alike families under its own codes. In its SAE catalog they are MLHM, MLHP, MLHR and MLHH (spool valve) and MLHS, MLHT and MLHV (disc valve).
If the naming is the confusing part, our Eaton, Char-Lynn and Danfoss naming guide sorts it out, and the Char-Lynn part number decoder turns a 101-, 103- or 104- number into series, displacement and seal kit. For the whole line, start at the Char-Lynn / Eaton brand page or the Char-Lynn orbital motor parts catalog and service data.
What crosses to a Char-Lynn H Series (101-) motor?
Spool valve, gerotor, 36 to 370 cc (2.2 to 22.6 cu in) plus a 740 cc size, 2-bolt and 4-bolt flanges, 1 in straight or 1 in SAE 6B spline shafts, 7/8-14 O-ring, 1/2 NPTF or manifold ports. Rated 141 bar (2050 psi) continuous.
| Brand and series | Basis | What lines up | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ross MG (and MAG) | Manufacturer crossover (TRW Ross Gear) | Listed row by row against 101-10xx numbers in 4-bolt and SAE A 2-bolt, keyed and splined, NPTF, O-ring and manifold versions | Ross notes some of its motors have an internally threaded shaft end; check shaft length |
| White HS | Manufacturer crossover (TRW Ross Gear) | Listed in the same rows as the H | Old White numbering; confirm against a White catalog |
| Danfoss / White OMP | Published specs | 2-hole flange with 82.5 mm (3.25 in) pilot on 106.4 mm (4.19 in) bolt circle, the same as the H 2-bolt; square flange with 44.4 mm (1.75 in) pilot on 82.5 mm bolt circle, the same as the H 4-bolt; 1 in straight and splined shafts; 7/8-14 UNF ports; 25-400 cc | Many OMPs are 25 mm shaft and G 1/2 (BSPP) ports |
| White DH | Published specs; distributor sheet | 25-400 cc, 2-bolt A, 4-bolt magneto and square mounts | Continuous pressure 138 bar per White |
| M+S MLHP | Published specs | 25-630 cc, SAE A 2-hole, magneto and square flanges | Check shaft and port codes in the M+S order code |
What crosses to a Char-Lynn S or T Series (103-, 158-) motor?
S Series: spool valve with a Geroler (roller) set, 59 to 372 cc (3.6 to 22.7 cu in), the same 2-bolt and 4-bolt flanges and 1 in shafts as the H, rated 135 bar (2000 psi) continuous. T Series: 36 to 370 cc, same flange family, rated 177 bar (2565 psi) continuous and available with a parking brake (185-).
| Brand and series | Basis | What lines up | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ross MF (and MAF) | Manufacturer crossover (TRW Ross Gear) | Listed against 103-10xx S numbers in 4-bolt and SAE A 2-bolt, 1 in keyed and 1 in 6B spline, NPTF, O-ring and manifold | Ross displacement groupings are approximate |
| White RS | Manufacturer crossover (TRW Ross Gear); published specs | Listed in the S rows; White's current RS catalog shows 2-hole SAE A mounts, 50-400 cc | White rates the RS at 121 bar continuous, lower than an S or T |
| Parker TB, TC, TE, TJ, TS | Parker part numbers; published specs | Parker's service charts use MF-prefix drive links in this family; 2.2-24.0 cu in; SAE A 2-bolt and 4-bolt mounting codes | Mount and port codes differ by series; decode the full model number |
| Danfoss / White OMR | Published specs | Same 82.5 mm pilot, 106.4 mm bolt circle 2-hole flange and 44.4 mm square flange as the S; 50-375 cc; 1 in straight and splined shafts with 7/8-14 UNF ports | G 1/2 ports and 25 or 32 mm shafts on European builds |
| White DS | Published specs; distributor sheet | Same DH/DS family and mounts as above | 138 bar continuous |
| M+S MLHR | Published specs | 50-400 cc, SAE A 2-hole, magneto and square flanges | Check the order code for shaft and ports |
The T Series postdates the Ross crossover we have, so nothing on paper names its competitor. By published specs it sits on the same flanges as the S, with a higher pressure rating than most of the motors in this table. If you are replacing a T, match the pressure as well as the frame.
What crosses to a Char-Lynn 2000 Series (104-, 105-, 106-) motor?
Disc valve, 41 to 490 cc (2.5 to 29.8 cu in). Mounts include SAE A 2-bolt (82.6 mm pilot on 106.4 mm bolt circle), SAE B 2-bolt (101.6 mm pilot on 146.0 mm), 4-bolt, magneto, wheel (108.0 mm, 4.25 in pilot on 147.6 mm bolt circle) and bearingless. Shafts from 1 in straight to 1-1/4 in straight, tapered and 14-tooth spline. Rated 205 bar (3000 psi) continuous.
| Brand and series | Basis | What lines up | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ross MB (and MAB) | Manufacturer crossover (TRW Ross Gear) | Listed against standard and wheel mount 104- and 105- numbers, straight, tapered and splined | Ross had no bearingless match and says to use a standard motor with a gearbox |
| White RE | Manufacturer crossover (TRW Ross Gear) | Listed in many 2000 rows | White's current RE is a propel motor with magneto, 6-hole SAE A and wheel mounts, 121-748 cc |
| Parker TF | Parker part numbers; published specs | TF rotor sets carry MB part numbers; 4.9-29.1 cu in; SAE A 2-bolt, standard 4-bolt and wheel mount codes | TF takes Parker's own kit (standard SK000092), not a Char-Lynn kit |
| Danfoss / White OMS | Published specs; distributor sheet | A2 flange 82.5 mm pilot on 106.4 mm bolt circle and SAE B flange 101.6 mm on 146 mm, both the same as 2000 options; 80-500 cc; 1 in and 1-1/4 in shafts | OMS US wheel flange is 127 mm pilot on 161.9 mm, not the 2000 wheel pattern; the distributor sheet also says OMS does not cover 2000 wheel motors |
| White WS | Published specs | 2-hole SAE A, 2-hole SAE B, 4-hole magneto and a 4.25 in wheel mount, 80-500 cc | Compare the wheel bolt circle to the drawing |
| M+S MLHS | Published specs | 80-565 cc, SAE A 2-hole and 4-hole, SAE B, magneto and wheel flanges | Check the order code for shaft and ports |
The distributor sheet also says an OMP can stand in for some 2000 motors with 1 in shafts where the pressure demand is lower. Read that as a lead: the OMP is a lighter spool valve motor, so check its pressure and side load rating against the job.
What crosses to a Char-Lynn 4000, 6000 or 10,000 Series motor?
4000 (109-, 110-, 111-): 110 to 625 cc, SAE B and SAE C mounts, 1-1/4 in straight, 1-5/8 in tapered and 1-1/4 in 14-tooth spline shafts, 1-1/16 O-ring or 3/4 in split flange ports. 6000 (112-, 113-, 114-): 195 to 985 cc, standard 4-bolt (160 mm pilot on 200 mm bolt circle), SAE C, wheel and bearingless, 1-1/2 in straight, 1-1/2 in 17-tooth spline, 40 mm and 1-3/4 in tapered shafts, 1-5/16 O-ring ports. 10,000 (119-, 120-): 345 to 940 cc, SAE C (127.0 mm pilot on 161.92 mm bolt circle) and wheel, 2-1/4 in straight, 2-1/8 in 16-tooth spline and 2-1/4 in tapered shafts, 1-5/16 O-ring or 1-1/4 in split flange ports, 9/16-18 case drain.
| Char-Lynn | Brand and series | Basis | What lines up | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4000, 6000 | Ross ME (and MAE) | Manufacturer crossover (TRW Ross Gear) | Listed against 109-, 110-, 112- and 113- numbers in standard and wheel mounts | Ross itself says to use a motor with a gearbox to match the torque of the 112- (6000) motors |
| 4000, 6000 | White RE | Manufacturer crossover (TRW Ross Gear) | Listed in the O-ring port standard and wheel mount rows | Check pressure and torque in the White catalog |
| 4000, 6000 | Parker TG, TH | Parker part numbers | TG and TH rotor sets carry ME part numbers; 8.6-58.5 cu in | Check the mounting and porting code on the nameplate |
| 6000 | Danfoss OMT | Published specs; distributor sheet | US standard flange 127 mm pilot on about 162 mm bolt circle, same as the 6000 SAE C option; 1.5 in straight, 1.5 in spline and 1.75 in tapered shafts like the 6000; 160-500 cc | OMT US ports are 1-1/16-12 UN, the 6000 uses 1-5/16 O-ring; OMT brake versions must have a drain line |
| 6000 | Danfoss OMV | Published specs | Standard 4-hole flange 160 mm pilot on 200 mm bolt circle, the same as the 6000 standard (AH) mount; 315-800 cc | Shafts are 50 mm or 2.25 in straight, 2.125 in spline, 60 mm or 2.25 in taper, larger than most 6000 shafts |
| 10,000 | Danfoss OMV (SAE-C version) | Published specs; distributor sheet | SAE C 127 mm pilot on 161.9 mm bolt circle; 2.25 in straight and 2.125 in spline shafts; 1-5/16-12 UN ports; 9/16-18 UNF drain; 315-800 cc vs 345-940 cc | Check spline tooth count; the 10,000 spline is 16 tooth |
| 6000, 10,000 | M+S MLHT, MLHV | Published specs | MLHT 160-725 cc with SAE C 4-hole and wheel flanges; MLHV 315-800 cc | Confirm the flange drawing |
There is no clean Danfoss match for the 4000. The distributor sheet says so outright and calls the OMT a 6000-mount, 6000-shaft motor with performance between the two. The OMT's SAE C flange does match the 4000's SAE C option, but its shafts do not match the 4000's 1-1/4 in shafts, so in practice you are adapting, not swapping.
What about the Char-Lynn J Series?
The J (129-) runs 8.2 to 50 cc on a 5-bolt flange (31.47 mm pilot on a 45 mm bolt circle) or a 2-bolt flange (62.99 mm pilot on an 80 mm bolt circle). The Danfoss OMM and OML and the M+S MLHM cover the same displacements, but White lists the OMM and OML on a 3-bolt round mount. We found no mount-compatible match on paper, so treat a J replacement as a bracket job or stay with the J. See the J Series parts catalog.
What should you check before swapping one brand of orbital motor for another?
- Mount. Pilot diameter and bolt circle, not just the number of bolts. Two motors can share a bolt circle and still differ at the pilot: the 2000 wheel mount has a 108.0 mm (4.25 in) pilot on a 147.6 mm bolt circle, while the OMR wheel flange puts an 82.5 mm pilot on the same 147.6 mm bolt circle.
- Shaft. Diameter, keyed or splined, spline tooth count and pitch, taper and thread, and length from the mounting face. A 1-1/4 in 14-tooth spline and a 1-1/4 in straight shaft are not interchangeable, and the J and 10,000 shafts are their own sizes.
- Ports. 7/8-14 O-ring, 1/2 NPTF, G 1/2 BSPP, manifold and split flange all exist in the same frames. Port position matters too: end port, side port, staggered or 180 degrees apart.
- Displacement. Makers round differently. The distributor sheet lists Danfoss DH sizes such as 4.8 cu in against an H at 4.5 cu in. At the same flow, speed changes in proportion: speed in rpm equals flow in gpm times 231, divided by displacement in cubic inches per revolution.
- Pressure and case drain. Continuous pressure ratings in the catalogs we compared run from 121 bar (White RS) to 210 bar (OMS). Char-Lynn's standard shaft seals are rated to 100 bar of case pressure on the H, S, T and 4000, 140 bar on the 2000, 70 bar on the 6000 and 20 bar on the 10,000, with a high-pressure seal option on the H, S, T, 2000 and 4000. Parker says its Torqmotor high-pressure seal does away with the case drain. If the old motor was drained, drain the new one.
- Valve type. H, S and T are spool valve; 2000 and up are disc valve. OMP, OMR and OMH are spool valve and the OMS is disc valve. A spool valve motor in place of a disc valve motor may fit the flange and still fall short on pressure, side load and life.
- Rotation and options. Check which port gives clockwise rotation in each maker's catalog (the Ross sheet tells you to use the catalogs for shaft rotation), and match brakes, integral relief valves, shuttle valves, two-speed and speed sensors.
A motor that fits is not the same as a kit that fits. Seal kits, rotor sets and drive links do not cross between brands, and often not between series of the same brand. Buy parts for the motor on the machine, by its own nameplate. And no cross reference can promise a 100% fit: OEM-special motors built for equipment makers can differ from the catalog unit.
Where do you get seal kits and parts after a cross?
For Char-Lynn motors, start with the decoder, then Char-Lynn seal kits or the seal kit collection, and the series parts: H, S, T, 2000, 6000. The seal kit guide explains why the design code picks the kit. For Torqmotors, the Torqmotor page decodes the model code and lists the seal kits, and the rebuild guide covers the date-code split. For Danfoss, White and M+S motors, send us the nameplate and we will quote the kit.
If the motor is weak or leaking rather than simply worn out, read Char-Lynn orbital motor troubleshooting first. A new motor of another brand will blow its shaft seal just as fast if the case pressure problem is still there.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Danfoss equivalent of a Char-Lynn 2000 Series motor?
The closest Danfoss frame is the OMS, which White Drive now builds. Both offer a 2-bolt flange with an 82.5 mm (3.25 in) pilot on a 106.4 mm (4.19 in) bolt circle and an SAE B flange with a 101.6 mm (4.00 in) pilot on a 146 mm (5.75 in) bolt circle, and the displacements overlap (OMS 80-500 cc, 2000 Series 41-490 cc). That is a comparison by published specs, not a factory interchange, so check the shaft, ports, wheel flange and case drain before you swap.
Is a Danfoss OMP the same as a Char-Lynn H Series?
Not the same motor, but the same class. Both are spool valve motors with a 2-bolt 82.5 mm (3.25 in) pilot on a 106.4 mm bolt circle, 1 in straight and 1 in splined shaft options and 7/8-14 O-ring port options. The H runs 36-370 cc and the OMP 25-400 cc. Displacements are rounded differently, so the same nominal size can run a little faster or slower.
What Char-Lynn motor replaces a Danfoss OMR 160 with a 1 inch keyed shaft and a 2-bolt mount?
By published specs the nearest Char-Lynn is an S Series around 166 cc (10.1 cu in), 2-bolt flange, 1 in straight shaft with Woodruff key and 7/8-14 O-ring ports, product number 103-1036 in the Danfoss Char-Lynn catalog. Danfoss lists the OMR 160 in that shaft and port style as 151-7244. Confirm the port thread, rotation and pressure rating before you order.
Who owns White hydraulic motors now?
Interpump Group. It signed to buy the White Drive Motors and Steering business from Danfoss on June 1, 2021 and closed on October 1, 2021, with plants in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, Parchim, Germany and Wroclaw, Poland. White Drive now also sells the OMP, OMR, OMH and OMS orbital motors.
Is a Parker Torqmotor the same as a Ross or Char-Lynn motor?
Torqmotor was the TRW Ross Gear name and is Parker's today, and Parker's service charts still use the old Ross series letters as part-number prefixes: MF drive links in the TB, TC, TE and TJ, mostly MB rotor sets in the TF, ME rotor sets in the TG and TH. Ross's own crossover put the MF against the Char-Lynn S, the MB against the 2000 and the ME against the 4000 and 6000. Same class of motor, different parts.
Can I use a Char-Lynn seal kit in a Danfoss, White or Parker motor?
No. Interchangeable mounting does not mean interchangeable internals. Each maker uses its own shaft seal, backup rings and body seals, and even inside one brand the kits change by series and design. Order the kit for the motor that is on the machine, by its own nameplate.
Do I need a case drain when I swap brands?
It depends on the motor going in. Parker says its Torqmotor high-pressure shaft seal removes the need for a case drain, while Char-Lynn's standard shaft seals are rated to 100 bar (H, S, T and 4000), 140 bar (2000), 70 bar (6000) and 20 bar (10,000 Series) of case pressure. If the old motor had a drain line, plumb the new one the same way. Never cap a drain to make a swap fit.
