Pullers Blind hole bearing puller. TC, TS, TB and TE need 1.06 in (26.9 mm) and 1.62 in (41.1 mm); TJ needs 1.400 in (35.6 mm) and 2.130 in bearing sizes.
Special tooling Bearing mandrel for TC, TS, TB and TE. Seal removal and installation tool, included in kit SK000472 but not in SK000473.
Measuring Feeler gauge, 0.005 in (0.13 mm). Torque wrench reading ft. lbs.
Sockets 1/2 or 9/16 in thin wall, 1 in. Allen sockets 3/16 and 3/8 in.
General Arbor press, vise with soft jaws, breaker bar, adjustable crescent or hose fitting wrenches, screwdriver, masking tape, air pressure source, emery paper.
Consumables Clean petroleum-based solvent. SAE 10W40 SE or SF oil. Corrosion resistant grease, Parker spec 045236 or Mobilith SHC 460, supplied as grease pack 406018 in every seal kit.
Soft jaws matter. Clamping a Torqmotor housing in bare steel jaws distorts the mounting flange and the motor will never seal properly afterwards.

Final check, not a fastener: torque required to rotate the coupling shaft by hand must be no more than 50 ft. lbs. (68 N m). More than that and something is pinched, so strip it back rather than running it.
Disassembly 14 steps, item numbers match the exploded view
1. Port O-rings Remove the manifold port O-rings (20) if the motor is manifold ported.
2. Bolts Remove the five or six special bolts (1, 1A, 1B or 1C) and inspect them. Stretched or galled bolts are not reusable.
3. End cover Remove the end cover assembly (2), then the commutator ring seal (3) and discard it.
4. Commutator Remove the commutator ring (5) and the commutator set.
5. Manifold Remove the manifold (6). Inspect for cracks, surface scoring, brinelling or spalling.
6. Rotor set Remove the rotor set (7) and wear plate (8). Inspect the rotor set assembled for nicks, scoring or spalling on any surface, and for broken or missing parts.
7. Drive link Remove the drive link (9) from the coupling shaft (10) if it did not come away with the rotor set.
8. Seal ring Remove and discard seal ring (3) from the housing (17).
9. Key and nut Remove any key (26) or nut (27a, 27b) from the output shaft.
10. Coupling shaft Remove the coupling shaft (10) by pushing on the output end. Inspect the bearing and seal surfaces for spalling, nicks, grooves, severe wear or corrosion.
11. Bearings Remove the thrust bearing (12) and thrust washer (13).
12. Shaft seal Remove the shaft seal, backup ring and backup washer and discard them.
13. Dirt and water seal Invert the housing in the vise and remove and discard the dirt and water seal (19).
14. Housing Inspect the housing (17) for cracks and the machined surfaces for nicks, burrs, brinelling or corrosion.
Every seal you remove is scrap. Seal rings, the commutator seal, the shaft seal, backup ring, backup washer and the dirt and water seal are all one-use. They are all in the seal kit, so there is no reason to try to save one.
Assembly 13 steps, reverse order with the critical differences called out
1. Clean the seal bore Clean the motor housing seal bore thoroughly to remove any debris before anything goes back in.
2. Housing in the vise Place the housing (17) into a soft jawed vise with the coupling shaft bore down, clamping on the mounting flange.
3. Bearings Assemble the thrust washer (13) then the thrust bearing (12). On TC, TS, TB and TE the coupling shaft seats directly against the thrust bearing.
4. Coupling shaft Pack the outer housing bearing or bushing (18) generously with the recommended grease, then install the coupling shaft (10) and seat it against the thrust bearing.
5. Seal ring Apply a small amount of clean grease to a new seal ring (3) and insert it into the housing seal ring groove.
6. Drive link and wear plate Fit the drive link (9), then assemble the wear plate (8) over the drive link and the alignment studs onto the housing.
7. Rotor set Assemble the rotor set onto the wear plate, seal ring side up. Install the vanes into the stator vane pockets.
8. Manifold Assemble the manifold (6) over the alignment studs and drive link and onto the rotor set. Orient the seam in item 7 towards the rear cover.
9. Commutator Assemble the commutator ring (5) over the alignment studs onto the manifold, then the commutator set.
10. End cover Assemble the end cover over the alignment studs and onto the commutator set.
11. Bolts Fit the five or six special bolts finger tight, then torque to 25 to 30 ft. lbs. in a crossing pattern.
12. Valve plugs Where fitted, torque shuttle valve plugs to 9 to 12 ft. lbs. and relief valve plugs to 45 to 55 ft. lbs.
13. Final check Rotate the coupling shaft by hand. It must take no more than 50 ft. lbs.
The outer bearing is not lubricated by the system fluid. It only ever sees the grease you pack into it at assembly, so a light smear guarantees a short life. Use Parker spec 045236 or Mobilith SHC 460, and never mix grease bases, which is detrimental to bearing life.

What do I need to rebuild a Parker Torqmotor?

Kit SK000472 includes the seal removal and installation tool; SK000473 is the same kit without it, so order the 472 the first time.

What are the torque specs for a Parker Torqmotor?

The through bolts (items 1, 1A, 1B, 1C, 5/16-24 UNF-2A) take 25 to 30 ft. lbs. (33 to 40 N m). The 5/8-18 coupling shaft bolt takes 140 to 180 ft. lbs. The output nut takes 175 to 255 ft. lbs. on TC, TB and TE, and the TJ castle nut takes 250 to 300 ft. lbs. Shuttle valve plugs are 9 to 12 ft. lbs. and relief valve plugs 45 to 55 ft. lbs.

How do I know the rebuild went together correctly?

Rotate the coupling shaft by hand at the end. It must take no more than 50 ft. lbs. (68 N m). Anything stiffer means something is pinched, misaligned or a seal ring has rolled, and running it will destroy the new parts. Strip it back rather than testing it on the machine.

Which seal kit do I need before I start?

Check the date code on the nameplate, not just the model code. Motors built before date code 34824 take the legacy kits SK000090 in Buna-N or SK000091 in Viton. Later motors take SK000472 or SK000473. TF, TG, TH and TL take SK000092. Ordering the wrong side of that date is the most common Torqmotor parts mistake.

Which parts should I always replace on a Torqmotor rebuild?

Every seal is one-use: the seal rings, commutator seal, shaft seal, backup ring, backup washer and the dirt and water seal. All of them are in the seal kit. Inspect and replace as needed the rotor set, wear plate, manifold, commutator set, thrust bearing and thrust washer, and the through bolts if they are stretched or galled.
